ELECTRIC FIELDS OF CYLINDRICAL RF ION GUIDES

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 3—17
EDN: MXKPEJ

The article considers analytical expressions for the potentials of electric fields that correspond to cylindrical RF channels. The electrodes of such channels are a sequence of identical flat diaphragms, in the particular case of circular diaphragms with apertures of constant radius. The obtained expressions allow one to estimate the disturbances of the transporting electric fields when approaching the edges of the electrodes and can be useful for qualitative simulation of RF devices designed for isolation, transporting and focusing of ions.

SIMULATION OF CYLINDRICAL RF ION GUIDES
USING ANALYTICAL ELECTRIC FIELDS

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 18—37
EDN: QQNXYE

The article explores the qualitative properties of cylindrical radio frequency ion guides used to convey ions. Analytical expressions for electric fields obtained earlier, and the theory of pseudo-potential motion of charged particles in RF electric fields, are used here. Different operating modes of RF ion guides are considered: with a phase π for RF voltages applied between neighboring electrodes, with a phase π/2 for RF voltages applied between neighboring electrodes, with 100% sinusoidal amplitude modulation of sinusoidal RF voltages to provide the A-wave effect. The influence of high order nonlinear spatial harmonics of the considered electric fields for isolation, transportation and focusing of charged particles (ions) is investigated as well.

LINEAR ION TRAP WITH AN ISLAND OF STABILITY
FORMED BY QUADRUPOLE EXCITATION

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 38—44
EDN: OYZYMT

The conditions of mass-selective ion ejection at the boundary of the island of stability formed by a quadrupole additional voltage with a frequency of ω = Ω / 2 are considered. Within the island, the parameters βx and βy are found, which determine the spectrum of ion oscillations along the transverse coordinates X and Y of the quadrupole mass filter. An excitation contour near the stability boundary qb = 0.9082 with a relative width of qb / Δq ≈ 3000 is presented.

FUNDAMENTALS OF INTERACTION BETWEEN A UNIFORM FIELD AND A SINGLE-COMPONENT SPHERICAL ELECTRIC FIELD STRENGTH SENSOR WITH AN OPEN SYSTEM OF ELECTRODES

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 45—55
EDN: CTVHGU

The paper considers the fundamentals of theoretical provisions necessary for constructing electroinductive sensors of electric field strength. The sensitive elements of the gauge are spherical shells in the form of spherical segments located on the surface of a virtual sphere. The relevance of such developments is associated with ensuring labor protection and safety for the maintenance personnel of high-voltage power plants. The theoretical provisions are based on solving paired integral equations by numerical methods. Based on the results of numerical solutions, empirical expressions are established for electric charges, open-circuit voltage, and capacitance between sensitive electrodes depending on the angular dimensions of the spherical segments. A design solution for a sensor is proposed, which is based on two diametrically opposed conductive sensitive electrodes in the form of spherical segments located in a medium: the permittivities of the media outside and inside the spherical shells are, respectively, equal to ε1 and ε2. It is established that the most acceptable output signal of such a sensor is the open-circuit voltage. The obtained results of the work allow for an estimated calculation of similar electric field strength sensors.

SIMULATION OF OPERATION OF A GRIDLESS ION GATE
FOR AN ION MOBILITY SPECTROMETER

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 56—63
EDN: FILXCG

The results of simulating the creation of an ion packet at atmospheric pressure using a gridless two-electrode ion gate – which is simple to fabricate and readily adaptable to an ion drift spectrometer – are presented in this study. If a second gate is installed in the drift chamber at the proper opening time in relation to the first gate, it improves the separation of partially overlapping peaks in the spectrum, demonstrating that a gridless two-electrode ion gate can be used most effectively in the mode of double sequential ion separation.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF POLYNOMIAL
AND ANALYTICAL APPROXIMATIONS OF POLARIZATION-
OPTICAL RESPONSES OF MAGNETIC NANOFLUIDS

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 64—72
EDN: WFWIQH

A quantitative comparison of the possibilities of polynomial and analytical approximation of weak polarization-optical responses of dilute magnetic nanofluids (NF) is carried out. Estimates of the coefficients of determination are used as criteria for comparing different approximation methods. It is shown quantitatively that for all studied values of the magnetic field, the dependences of the values of weak polarization-optical responses of magnetic NF on concentration are similar in the concentration range of more than three orders of magnitude. The possibilities of using the approximation coefficients for estimating the parameters of the NF under study are considered. The considered methods for approximating experimental data of NF polarization-optical responses are equivalent, since the coefficients of determination for these methods are close to each other. The advantage of the approximation method using an analytical function is that one of the approximation coefficients is directly related to the concentration of the analyzed NF. As a result, there is no need to use calibration curves and perform interpolation in order to estimate the concentration, in contrast to approximation with polynomials. Analytical approximation of the responses of the studied NF by means of dependencies using hyperbolic functions is more sensitive to the outliers in the experimental data than the approximation method based on polynomials. If a polynomial response model is used, the method of estimating concentrations through calibration curves can be successfully applied even when there are noticeable outliers in the experimental data.

DEVELOPMENT AND LABORATORY TESTING
OF A LED PHYTO-IRRADIATOR

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 82—94
EDN: BIRFGE

The issue of energy saving in optical electrotechnologies is important for modern LED-based phyto-irradiators, which have now definitely found their niche in indoor plant lighting. Such devices have several specific features that need to be considered when designing and analysing them. The phyto-irradiator developed is primarily intended for experimental studies on the energy and environmental aspects of indoor plant lighting. It may be also used in the private sector and in small greenhouses for the irradiation of both seedlings and long-stemmed plants. The aim of the study was to design a simple device that could regulate the radiation spectrum accurately enough for practical applications and that could be switched on automatically according to the time of day and the level of natural light. The phyto-irradiator uses a new design principle. Multi-spectral LEDs are evenly distributed over the heat-dissipating surface and combined into separate electrical groups that are switched to achieve the required light quality of the radiation flux. Experimental data was obtained by measuring spectral, photometric, electrical and thermal characteristics of the device. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the developed phyto-irradiator. It combines the accuracy of light quality control with energy efficiency.

MICROFLUIDIC ORGAN-ON-A-CHIP DEVICE WITH POROUS
MEMBRANE FOR LONG-TERM CELL CULTIVATION

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 95—106
EDN: FOBLZP

Currently, microfluidic organ-on-a-chip devices are considered as an alternative for drug testing in preclinical studies. They can simulate the structure and functions of individual human organs and organ systems, such as lungs, liver, kidneys, intestines, etc. for screening various substances. One of the key elements of organ-on-a-chip devices is a flexible porous membrane. Cell growth on such membranes allows studying the cellular response to mechanical and chemical stimuli. In this research, we developed a method for fabricating microfluidic organ-on-a-chip devices containing a flexible suspended porous membrane made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with the addition of multi-walled carbon nanotubes, which increase the mechanical strength of the membrane and do not affect its optical properties. The use of carbon nanotubes made it possible to increase the surface area of the obtained membranes and reduce their rupture during production. For cell growth in the organ-on-a-chip devices, a passive change of the nutrient medium was used. It was based on periodic changes in the tilt angle of the device located on an oscillating platform. This approach allowed growing cells of model cell lines for more than 7 days with a viability of more than 95%. The results obtained indicate good biocompatibility of the used material and its applicability for the fabrication of flexible porous membranes in organ-on-a-chip devices.

PROTECTIVE FILTERS AGAINST DUST AND DIRT PARTICLES
FOR DROPLET MICROFLUIDICS APPLICATIONS

"Nauchnoe Priborostroenie", 2025, vol. 35, no. 3, pp. 107—118
EDN: LTVQNP

Currently, droplet microfluidics technologies are actively studied and implemented to solve various biological problems: screening of new drugs, molecular diagnostics, chemical synthesis, etc. However, most of the proposed devices are suitable only for laboratory use due to problems with reliability and reproducibility of results. One of the key problems arising when using microfluidic chips is clogging and blocking of microchannels with dust and dirt particles. Various designs of filter elements placed near the input interfaces of the microfluidic chip are proposed in the literature. However, many of them are not suitable for working with microdroplets of aqueous emulsions, since the filter structure can lead to disruptions of the original emulsion (separation or merging of droplets). In this paper, we studied 17 filter designs integrated into microfluidic chips that retain dust microparticles and pass water-in-oil emulsion microdroplets through themselves. The study determined the efficiency of filtration of microparticles from a model solution of dust in water and fluorocarbon oil. The overall range of dust microparticle filtration efficiency was within 88—99% for all the studied filter designs. The best 4 designs with a filtration efficiency of over 98% were used to study the transport of water-in-oil emulsion microdroplets. Based on the study results, the optimal design of the filter element was determined that retains dust microparticles with an efficiency of 99% and increases the variation coefficient of the diameter of monodisperse water-in-oil emulsion microdroplets by no more than 2 times from 6% to 12%.

It is shown that complex signals based on pseudorandom sequences (PRS) are currently being actively used in various fields of activity. It is indicated that many well-known binary PRS, for example, Barker codes, m-sequences, etc., have various disadvantages that make it difficult to use them in practice. Therefore, it seems reasonable to explore ways to complicate the structure of a signal not by increasing the number of characters in its period, but by increasing the number of values that a numeric sequence can take. One of the most obvious and least computationally expensive approaches to complicate the signal structure is the use of ternary sequences (TS). It is noted that, despite the availability of a large number of works on this topic, some issues are not fully disclosed, for example, the secrecy and reliability of such signals when used in data transmission systems. It is proposed to use nonlinear dynamics methods (BDS-statistics, Hurst exponent, peak factor) to evaluate the secrecy and reliability of signals generated on the basis of TS. Based on the conducted research, it has been confirmed that signals generated on the basis of TS are detected using nonlinear dynamics methods, in particular, using BDS-statistics. At the same time, using the Hurst exponent, such signals are not detected, since they are classified as close to white noise. It is noted that all signals generated on the basis of TS have a good peak factor. It is noted that most of the studied signals formed on the basis of TS are close to the signals formed on the basis of classical binary PRS. Based on this, they can be recommended for use in hidden data transmission systems — although they can be detected, however, disclosure of their structure will present certain difficulties, since they have the characteristics of classical binary PRS.
