The main principles of the formation of nonsteady state responses of physical systems to the pulse excitation (free induction decay and echo signals) and their common features, which permit to use them in information processing, are discussed in the review. Specific examples of the systems and of some important phenomena in this field are listed. The restrictions of the processors based on nonsteady state responses and possible ways to improve their efficiency are discussed.
