A LIDAR system based on Er-laser with eye-safe radiation (the wavelength is 1.54 *m) has been created and tested for smoke and other pollution in air. Both theoretical estimations and preliminary experiments show that the needed signal registration may be possible at 10–12 km depending on smoke scattering parameters.
