AN ESTIMATION METHOD OF ENERGETIC AND SPATIAL PARAMETERS OF X-RAY AND GAMMA DETECTORS

A mathematical model for the energy dispersive x-ray and low energy gamma detector is proposed, which is based on the analysis of the radiation and high energy electron transport in a detector. This model allows to es-timate detector response function parameters. Using Monte Carlo method, probabilities of the photon registra-tion in different parts of the detector response function were determined. The results obtained by this model are compared with experimental data within the energy range up to 2 MeV. Estimation of the limited spatial resolu-tion due the processes of photon scattering and paths of electron deceleration was made. Keywords: detector response function, spatial resolution of detector, detecting of x-ray and gamma rays

ON THE NEW POTENTIALS OF ELLIPSOMETRY ARISING FROM THE NULL OPTICAL CIRCUIT. ELLIPSOMETRY OF REAL SURFACE STRUCTURES. 16. METROLOGY OF THE NULL ELLIPSOMETRY. METHODS FOR DETERMINATION OF COMPLETE SET OF PHASE COMPENSATOR COMPLEX PARAMETERS

The work describes methods for determination of the phase compensator three complex parameters ρ, ρ1 and ρ2. One of these is based only on positioning procedures and suggests rather expressed imperfection of the com-pensator, which is due to the appreciable difference of the small parameters ρ1 and ρ2 from null. Another method is a combined approach when both positioning procedures and invariants of ellipsometry of isotropic media are used. The process of optical calibration of the non-uniform compensator using both methods is described in de-tails. Keywords: ellipsometry, phase compensator, matrix Jones, optical calibration, optical alignment, ellipsometry invariants

POINT MEASUREMENTS OF TOPOGRAPHY, INTERACTION FORCES AND LOCAL PROPERTIES: NEW APPROACH TO THE COMPLEX ANALYSIS IN ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPY

We discuss the use of atomic force microscopy (AFM) in biology, medicine, etc. The point measurement technique for relief, interaction forces and local properties study is suggested. The influence of shear forces is totally eliminated because lateral movement of the probe occurs without contact with the surface. The principle of operation, possibilities and advantages of the method are described. The experimental data confirm the possi-bility of complex approach to AFM study. STUDY OF THE SURFACE PROPERTIES OF COATINGS COMPRISING A MIXTURE OF POLYSTYRENE AND POLY(STYRENESULFONIC ACID) ON THE FUSED SILICA GLASS

Contact angles of water and glycerol droplets are measured for fused silica glass KU-1 before and after the deposition of coatings from chloroform solutions of polystyrene-poly(styrenesulfonic acid) mixtures. The polar component of the surface energy is found to significantly vary for the studied samples linearly decreasing with the growth of the contact angle with water droplets. Silica surface processing with oligomeric diisocyanate CX-100 results in almost complete disappearance of the difference between the measured contact angles for var-ious samples as well as between their γ2ν values. γ2ν value reaches its maximum with the increase of poly(styrenesulfonic acid) concentration thus allowing the optimization of the polymer mixture composition for fused silica modification at the production of electrochromatographic capillary columns. PROJECT OF A COLLISION DISSOCIATION CELL FOR A TANDEM MASS-SPECTROMETER WITH PARALLEL ANALYSIS

Design of a collision dissociation cell, operating at high buffer gas pressure, is proposed for a tandem time-of-flight spectrometer with a parallel analysis of parent ions. This device was shown to provide the necessary speed of fragmentation and cleaning of the cell, as well as time confinement of the daughter ion packets. Char-acteristics of ion packets at the exit from the cell are studied. Keywords: collision dissociation cell, collisional cooling, ion packets, tandem TOF mass-spectrometer

USING TRAVELLING WAVE OF ELECTRIC FIELD IN A COLLISION DISSOCIATION CELL FOR TANDEM MASS SPECTROMETERS

Configuration of a collision dissociation cell with a traveling wave of electric field is proposed for a tandem time-of-flight spectrometer with the parallel analysis of parent ions. The traveling wave is determined by a step-by-step shift of a potential at the electrodes inserted between the quadrupole electrodes of the cell. Traveling wave mode was shown to provide the necessary frequency of daughter ion packets as well as their time con-finement. The characteristics of the ion packets at the exit from the cell are investigated. Keywords: collision dissociation cell, traveling wave of electric field, ion packets, tandem TOF mass-spectrometer

ON THE POSSIBILITY OF EXCITATION OF STANDING LONGITUDINAL WAVE IN THE CYLINDRICAL RESTRICTED CAPILLARY FILLED WITH THE FLUID

The work deals with the problem of fluid flat eigentone production possibility in the restricted cylindrical capillary filled with a fluid. In case when cylinder walls are not absolutely rigid, production of standing flat lon-gitudinal waves is impossible. With cylinder wall density increase approach to a piston standing wave produces an eigentone corresponding to the first natural frequency of a zero radial mode. Examples of calculations of cer-tain capillaries are given. The results of the work may be used in cases of ultrasound application to the problems of particle coagulation. SIGNAL MIXTURE DECOMPOSITION METHODS AND ALGORITHMS. II. APPLICATION OF Ì-GRADIENT TO ANALYSIS OF INDEPENDENT COMPONENTS

The problem of signal mixture decomposition (with reconstruction of its component forms) is analyzed without any information concerning the proportions and type of mixing. The method is based on using informa-tion criteria and adaptive algorithm for learning neural network. Several forms of distributions were considered for original signals reaching the sensors of information-measurement system. Variations of neural transfer func-tions corresponding to several types of distributions are given. The approach to signal mixture separation in-cludes application of m-gradient in the analysis scheme for independent component analysis. DETECTION OF LOCAL OBJECTS ON DIGITAL MICROSCOPIC IMAGES

The problem of detection of local objects, small in comparison with the image size is considered. It is shown that two-stage solution of the problem is necessary — preliminary processing of the image and the search for objects. Preliminary processing includes peaking filtration of the image by Tikhonov or Wiener filter, intended for discerning of conglutinated objects and for their normalization. Besides at this stage the background compo-nent of the image is eliminated. A search algorithm using formation of a threshold surface of detection is de-scribed. It is experimentally shown, that the detection efficiency exceeds 90 %, and the processing time is less than 60 ms for the image size 256 × 256. ALGORITHMS FOR ESTIMATE OF PRESENCE TWO OR MORE PEAKS IN THE SAMPLE OF FRAGMENT MASS-SPECTRA FOR SOFTWARE DATA PROCESSING IN DEFICIENT RESOLUTION

The results of investigation of algorithms for separate mass spectra data with singlet peaks and mass spectra data with multiplets are discussed. The necessity of these algorithms is due to the fact that time of data proc-essing of multiplet peaks is much longer than that of single peaks, and it’s reasonable to present on-line infor-mation on single peak parameters and then separate peaks off-line and give the final result.
